West Coast Trail 2012 - Top 10
To kick of the summer of 2012, two friends and I decided to take 7 days and hike the 75km West Coast Trail from Port Renfrew to Bamfield on Vancouver Island. It was an incredible time to say the least! Below are 10 of my favorite shots from the 1000 I took.
Lightning Storm - Victoria, BC, 2012
I love storms - especially thunder storms - and I've been waiting for the chance to shoot lightning for years. But Victoria rarely, if ever, sees any. So when this powerful front came through, I took to the hills of Metchosin to watch the dazzling display unfold over downtown. And what an incredible show it was! Nature never ceases to amaze. Above are my favorite two shots from the evening, both taken with the 5D MKII and a 70-200mm 2.8 lens.

Venus in Transit as seen from Metchosin
Here's my shot of Venus' transit in front of the sun yesterday as seen from Metchosin on planet Earth! I shot this using my 5D MKII and a 70-200mm lens w/ a 2X extender. Also attached was a polarizing filter and 5 stop neutral density filter. Even at that, my exposure near sunset was still 1/8000 @ f.64 at 200 iso! What an incredible sight to see though! Next time to watch will be 2117.
